But remember that I have not ever bought anything pirated on Sony's hardware. And i am sure they would not like to loose their users over not updating to the new firmware. They are in 3rd place they cant really afford to loose anyone. And they do need a more peaceful solution i completely agree but for now this is what we have to deal with.

As far as impinging on your freedoms, i dont know. i always saw it more of a privilage and that privilage has been revoked. just like in school when they put blocked every site that was any good.
