I don't think removing the other OS option is the right thing to do. If someone decides to try to hack the PS3, that person simply won't update, and will continue his work using Linux. And people who use Linux normally won't have the chance to do it anymore, wich is a bad thing. I can't see how much safer the PS3 is now, sincerely.
About the topic, I don't see nothing bad on using a proxy to be able to connect to PSN while keeping Linux.
