For Three reasons!

1.) Breaking the 5 Million Mark in Japan.

2.) Breaking the 15 Million Mark in Others.

3.) Being plain Awesome when it comes to Hack Prevention, buh bye Other OS!

Less than 1% of PS3 owners would of installed or used Linux on PS3. The 256MB Ram inside the PS3 is not ideal for running an OS. Sony made a smart business move got rid of OS which is not needed. The costs involved in hacking and pirating PS3 games is too expensive to pirates it is not worth their time and effort. PS3 is far from hack proof.

I think Sony's better business decision would have been to never allow Linux to be installed.  Now, I have problems with them removing a function from my system through forced patches.  It is one thing to cease support for a function but it is another thing altogether to disable it's functionality under the threat of losing other functions of the system.  I hope they, and any other company that does this sort of thing, end up with class action lawsuits.  I think Sony knew that linux was going to end up being a backdoor into cracking the system open and they didn't want what happened to the PSP to happen to the PS3.  However, it isn't the costomer's fault that Sony put themselves in that position.  Offering and promoting linux installations the system was their choice, and something that some customers based their purchasing decision on.

I give this thread a 9.2.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.
