And listen, in Vagrant Story, pick a weapon for each enemy type and use that weapon exclusively for each type. Trust me, you'll need it for a couple of early bosses.

My anti-dragon weapon leveled up a few times against the first freaking dragon boss...

You know, I've been meaning to check out Ogre Battle 64 for a while now. There have been others in the series that I've liked, but for whatever reason, I kept putting it off.

What kind of options do I have in terms of weapon types? It isn't better to wait until I have better weapons to level them like that? I'm not totally sure how the system works yet.

There are 8 types of different weapons, each with 16 different parameters that range from Enemy Types to Elemental Types and three different attack parameters (Blunt, Piercing and Edged). 

For example, you could have a Long Sword type of weapon, with affinity (+ values) to killing Human type of enemies and a high Edged value of attack and with an Affinity for Light Elemental enemies. Now, you're faced with a Human soldier opponent, but he's only weak to Piercing weapons. Even with high Human Affinity, your Edged Long Sword will have a huge penalty to the damage caused, because of not being Piercing.

Basically, each enemy has it's own weapon preference, and with so many different parameters, you can have up to 384 different weapon combinations. It's best that you focus only in having weapons that have High affinity for individual Enemy Types, even if the Attack parameters don't match most of the times. 

Also, since you can fuse weapons and stats migrate from the fused weaponry to the new weapon, you don't have to worry about leveling up early weapons in neglection of higher Tiered ones. 

Oooorrrr I could level up all 384 types =)

Sounds cool though, I'm not totally sure when I'll be able to really get into the game, but I'll keep a look out next time. I only played it for like 20 minutes so far anyways.

You could in Theory, but pratically it's impossible, since you can only hold 8 different weapons at any time on Ashley and even the storage chests only have space for 64 :P
