what SONY just did seems to be a very MS like move...

Doesnt this affect FOLDING@home? And what the hell is up with SONY removing features as time moves on.. Media slots, Hardware PSone/2BC, software PS2/one BC and now the "other OS" feature. I can understand them removing this features from the SLIM's from the word go.. but to go on an onslaught against the "phats" is just plain stupid.

You dont wanna piss of hardcore gamers/hackers SONY.. you dont..

Real BAD PR move here..

Someone who obviously have no clue what's going on.

FOLDING@HOME???????

The extra features were taken out from the Slim model to cut costs, and the benefit of that move is directly translated down to the consumer. You get (more than) what you pay for. (every unit is sold at a loss)

The 60gb launch model still retains all its features except for the option to install Other OS. Techinically speaking, you are still able to use the feature but at the cost of removed access from the free PSN service - which is a priviledge, as stated by the TOS.

This issue is way overblown. A vast majority of ps3 users don't use this feature AT ALL. As for the 1~2% of the install base that are affected, it's very likely that a substantial % of them are used as server farms or for research purposes. Last i check, NO ONE buy games for dedicated servers.

This is an obvious move in response to that attention-whore. Sony has seen what piracy did to the PSP, there's no way they will sit on their balls waiting for the full exploit to be released. It's much wiser to nip the problem at its bud than to play catch up with the hackers(as shown by the PSP).
