Not always. My mom, when I came out to her, kept asking if I was sure, was it only a phase, etc... though she realized that I meant it when I told her that the calls to California were to talk to my BF. (Not that it lasted long, but I guess something good came out of it?) I don't know if you're out to anyone else around you personally, but I do know that telling your parents is a bitch, moreso if you're still somewhat closeted. (I personally see the 2 big hurdles as being initially coming out and parents.) But either way, best of luck to you, and hopefully they'll be understanding.
