I'm not saying they'll buy one right now, I'm just saying that 3D could be what pushes them into getting a HD/3DTV at some point. And as I responded to NJ5, right now I'm seeing a lot more general excitement for 3D than compared to what I remember about HD at this point in its lifecycle. Your original points were that people who had recently upgraded to HD won't upgrade to 3D soon, and I agree with that, but I still think you are blowing the importance of this group out of proportion. That's all I'm saying. |
You guys are kind of talking about the same thing. People will upgrade to 3D TV at some point but just not the near future.
For the consumers that already owned a HDTV in the last few years, it would take at least another 5 years before they spend another big purchase to upgrade.
For consumers who has yet upgraded to HDTV, price is definitely a factor. They would either go for the cheap HDTV now instead of buying the expensive 3DTV or wait even longer until price of 3D TV to go down at current HDTV level or lower. That's gonna be another 3 years or so.
And that is without considering the whole glasses issue.
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
