Oh dear, perhaps its really not a good idea to give a hacker like Geohot a "mission".  Until this news he had no intention of continuing with any PS3 hack development, looks like they've just encouraged one of the best hackers out there to rejoin the battle. 

 

@Torillian - I think he summed up pretty much why he didn't think they'd bother reacting at all.  His hack doesn't really damage Sony in terms of sales as piracy is not possible and its only possible on a discontinued product. 

he's saying that hacking into someone else's system using this hack isn't possible, not that he can't screw over sales with it.  Sony mentioned security reasons, which is indeed a bunch of crap, but this hack could have hurt their sales and they acted to stop that as any business would.  If they hadn't people would be calling them idiots and saying it was another bad business decision by them.

Telling the public a lie is worse PR than a bad business decision.  As I already stated earlier this will not stop anyone working on a hack anyway and any PS3 will be downgradable back to a earlier version so if piracy becomes possible anyone with a fat model will be able to get back other OS functionality.   

This decision makes ZERO sense to me and many others.
