As much as HD-DVD supporters hate Blu-Ray (and Blu-Ray supporters hate HD-DVD) the existence of two formats is actually helping out many consumers ... Right now there is a price war going on and as long as both formats are fighting to survive it will continue; this means that both the players and the discs will see price reductions as soon as it becomes ecconomical.
Had there only been one format it is likely that we would be seeing players still in the $500 range, with discs averaging $40 in store ...
