Once again lets just get one thing clear. The hack that everyone refers to doesn't allow piracy and never will, it is just a gateway for more options to be explored. Even if it did open up other options there are a limited number of people in the population capable of doing this hack, they need to find another backdoor method for it to be a mainstream possibility.
Having thought about it more I doubt this update would actually prevent anything. I'm pretty sure you could regress back to an early firmware by replacing the harddrive if you kept a copy of the last update, thus meaning any fat PS3 could be returned to a "hackable" state again in the future.
If the above is true then I'm not really sure why they're doing this after all?
