It's been a long time since my last post, but this I've got to comment on.

I *almost* decided to get a PS3 Phat because of the linux feature. I figured that it could come in handy since I really like toying with those kinds of things. But I couldn't justify the extra expense, so I bought a slim Saturday  (yeah, they are actually coming back into stores after months of looking for them). I was disappointed to find out that though their media player has the capability to play DVD menus, they don't enable it for anything that isn't a disc. And my first thought was "Oh, if I had linux on it I could have run VLC and gotten the menus." Did a quick search, confirmed VLC runs on linux and then saw a side note "Sony screwing the PS3 users yet again"

I probably won't regret buying the PS3. But I did buy it for more than just games. I bought it to play movies, and not just bluray but those on my NAS, which I can not do in their current DVD-in-ISO form. But I'll tell you this: I'm d@mn happy I didn't spend the extra $$ to get a phat now. I would have been majorly pissed if I had. On a side note -- are there any media players you can buy for the PS3 that can do the stuff their built in one won't?
