Had this been a feature that was useful, such as the PS2 BC, I would understand the ranting, though I can pretty much guess and understand the other side of it as well. But with internet security constantly in question, if they're trying to protect their goods, I don't give a damn what was said 1 month, 2 months, 3 months ago, I'm not against that, nor am I against it if it's allowing for better use of other functions within the system, which is a possiblity as well.

I'm sure some people found it useful. To remove this for internet saftey is like disabling your computers ability to download to protect your computer from viruses. Saftey issues of non standard OS are the responsibility of the consumer. If some guy wants to put Linux on his PS3 and run the risk of saftey problems it's non of Sony's buisness. If they're getting rid of it to improve or bring in new features... here is an idea. Don't remove it until those new features are ready to come in. Here is another idea... make it OPTIONAL and run two concurrent forms of firmware. It would be like Sony removing BC from older consoles. It's just the removal of features for no good reason with no ability for the consumer to win out.
