Wrong, Pachter. The move was not "brilliant at the time" because Sony did the exact same move when it entered the market in 1995. Nintendo saw the obvious move coming and beat them to the punch with Sony's own game of "appealing to a wider audience"

 

Sony: Hah! Our PSP caters for those older audiences than your portables do!

Nintendo: Yeah, you pulled that one on us before. That's why our portable is going to be designed to appeal to everybody.
