I felt the same when a girl was doing a presentation about chat rooms on the internet. She had just done her Bachelor's Degree on the subject, so she had a pile of research from "actual chat rooms" (*cries of amazement from audience*), and pretty much presented us with a short version of it.

The problem is she clearly never uses the internet in her spare time, and over half of it sounded really dodgy. She included lists of smilies and acronyms, over half of which I had never seen (I have IRC open 24/7, and let's just say this isn't the only forum I've got around 2k posts on). Sadly I don't remember much of it anymore, but I'm sure you'll all believe me.

I'm looking forward to the first generations to grow up with online games and the like to get old enough to do serious research. Most of the current stuff is still pretty painful. =/
