Microsoft + Nintendo collaboration on hardware/network is a possibility.

Thats a pretty useless retort. You can do better than that.

 

OK. I will accept that. But my point would be that such a merger would not help Nintendo so it would not be interested in doing that.

Now if you would like to look at it another way 

Nintendo is a conservative company from one culture which makes one type of product.

And Microsoft is an aggressive company from another culture which makes a lot of different types of  products.

 

In other words, there would be too much organizational culture clash.

I didn't think about it on those terms however as I envision a parnership more along the lines of supplying services and technology rather than a close partnership in terms of producing content or selling consoles. Strictly speaking its a partnership of convenience.
