This is a common misconception. The orb was shown in development since the days of the Eyetoy, not the actual controller.
Those of you who are asking "how else could they have done it?" don't have imaginations. Before the Wiimote was announced, nobody would have guessed that Nintendo would have departed from the norms so drastically; a lot of people said "how else can they do it?" And now, it seems some people lack the imagination and think the Wiimote design is standard. Hah!
