Exactly how did they try to hype a Tribes game mechanic as original? By releasing a video displaying new armor abilities, one of which happened to be a jetpack? The jetpack is merely the armor ability equivalent of the Halo 3 portable lift equipment.
And I believe Duke Nukem 3D had jetpacks before Tribes did.
