It appears to be about the opposite of Home:
In Game Room, you don't apparently invite friends over, and the place is busy with your friend list's avatars wandering about, along with mascots. There is also no lines to play games. It is meant to play retro arcade games, rather than be a place to socialize. Also, the game rewards you for doing things, as opposed to Home, which is mostly a place to hangout. One in Game Room can jump in any time and do things, and don't need anyone around.
Game Room seems more like a challenger for the virtual console on the Wii. I would say it feels more fun of a way.
They do need to fix the server issues with Game Room though.
