This could be justified both because things are usually more profitable in Europe (consoles more profitable, currency stronger) and because the HD marketshare war is so much closer in that region. If you've got a shortage, it might make sense to make sure you can get ahead as much as possible in one region, rather than catching up a tiny bit in another.

You might be onto something. Did you know that not only is the ps3 more expensive in Europe, but that Sony makes 30 22 yen on every euro?

Although the Playstation 3 was first released in 2006, the high-definition video game system

still hasn’t been released in the Philippines.

That is about to change, however,

as Sony is planning to bring the Playstation 3 to that territory on March 27th. 

The Filipino branch of Sony has provided a list of launch festivities to accommodate the arrival of their system. Activities include Cosplay, where fans dress up as their favorite video game or anime character to participate in a fashion contest or take it one step further by creating a 2 minute fight scene. There will also be competitions for Tekken: Dark Resurrection (PSP) and Ridge Racer 7. Prizes compose of a brand new PSP and Playstation 3 systems.

Finally, the first 100 consumers who buy the Playstation 3 will get discounts for games and accessories.

You think Sony would want to have a lot of system's for a LAUNCH party don't you?

and have some in that region for other's to buy enough for the month: say about 15 to 20,000 system's?

 

ah yes good point. Shortage in the US, but a launch during said shortages. Classic.
