Really? The death spell isn't all that annoying to me. It's not like it causes instant death like doom(on the counter goes down to zero). I remember that Chapter 11 boss tried to pull that one on me but thankfully, I beated him before the counter went down to zero. Just make sure to have a medic in your party(preferably Hope). Yes, I am on Chapter 13.
