Reaonable, having a "decent" grip on it is different than fully understanding it. The movie is just too bizarre and abstract to fully understand exactly what Lynch was doing but "having a good idea of where he was going with it", yeah, I can get behind that.
I'm also a Lynch fan as well as Cronenberg and several other "weird" directors.
