Sony easily have the money to buy R*/T2 (I doubt T2 would agree to sell R* so they'd probably have to buy the whole group). But then Microsoft would have to retaliate by buying Activision, EA, or Ubisoft. So you'd basically end up spending billions of dollars for no competitive advantage, as there'd just be a few extra exclusives on each platform, which would cancel each other out. In other words, it would be a disaster for the platform holders, and Sony's management would get kicked out by the shareholders.
