If money is no object, get a third party to repair the PS3. All of your saves and game data will remain intact.

That the best option. If you get it working again, get PS3 Slim, use the data transfer utility and (using ethernet cable to connect both consoles) all your saves including the protected onessnnwill be moved to new PS3. Then you can sell your old phat PS3.

Im going to do it at some point but my 60gig B/C is doing well since Sept 2007. Will get PS3 slim maybe in the summer.

As i figured out, on Ebay a sold YLOd PS3 is around 70-100Euros, a working PS3 40gig up to 200Euros.

At retailers a slim cost around 300Euros.

Scenario 1: Repair the old one: 100Euros (third party), Sony 180Euro

                Sell the functioning one: 200E

-> i have a plus of max 100Euros, not including shipping fees and the moral crisis ;)

Scenario 2: sell the YLOD PS3: 70-100Euro

there is no difference sales wise, thats why im going to repair it myself, if that wont work i still can give it away for repair.

@Ldn.se thats probably the best option regarding data transfer, i did forget this was possible!

Edit: Just to make it clear: I have no faith in a once repaired YLOD console, sooner or later it will happen again, thats why i wanna get rid of it the best way possible.

A repaired console is always a risk. That data transfer utlity is great as unfortunately you cant move all saves to a flash drive.
