I see where going with the 40G, no backwards capability, helps Sony to lower the price. While others say that they can't/shouldn't drop the PS3 price, what current feature would you be willing to give up, for a cheaper PS3 even sooner? And, in your opinion, how much should Sony be willing to sell below cost to get BR as the acknowledged HD format? |
The answer: No
The format wars are retarted. With DVDs, they sat on the market for a while, and then they became generally accepted. The PS2's DVD drive was importaint becuase the PS2 came out right when DVDs were being made and bought.
Blu-Ray, not so much. Sony is trying to force it though, which won't work. Now, rather then letting it sit and eventually become accepted, buyers and movie companies will avoid it.
Best case senario: Blu-Ray will be accepted in a few years. At this point, the PS3 is stuck in it's market possistion and will sit there. Using the PS3 as a launch for Blu-Ray was both a dumb idea and a pipe dream. They would be stupid to lower the price even more just to try and save Blu-Ray especially when know one knows what it is yet.
