vic_viper said: @ Kasz216: Incorrect, the first game to use a 3rd person, free movement system was Square's Vagrant Story (released in 1998 on the PS1 and incidently had it's combat system "borrowed" 10 years later by Bethesda and incorporated into Fallout 3 as V.A.T.S). Even Parasite Eve 1 and 2 had the makings of a 3rd person freeform battle system, albiet, very much in a prototype form. This "Future Tactics" is very far from the first. |
Actually, the first game to use a 3rd person movement was Parasite Eve, in 1998. Vagrant Story was released on 2000, and it used the same system that Parasite Eve created, not the other way around.

All of these cases are "real time" however.
Valkyria is turnbased and squad based.
