I'm no MS or Nintendo fan... But i want to put what i said in leo's thread in here anyway

1 They have the most IP's.
2 They have produced far more quality IP's this gen than either Nintendo or Microsoft Game Studio, possibly combined.
3 They don't rely fully on the same series' they have relied on since they first entered the market.
4 They have (or will have, soon) a game for every genre i can think of.
5 They produce games targetted at every group. From games like EyePet, LBP to God of War, Uncharted.

Most of this is either opinion, or true for nintendo as well

1 This one is true, and it is good that Sony can put out so many games per year.

2 Don't try to present that as fact, it's your opinion. in my opinion, Nintendo have produce far more quality IPs this gen than Sony and MS combined

3 See 2, imo Sony are very much developing sequelitis at the moment (killzone 3 coming soon for example), Nintendo is better than most companies for bringing out new IP, and actually changing things between releases of IP. ie no 2 zelda games are the same, no 2 Cod games are different.

4 So does Nintendo. infact, just on the Wii there is something for every genre from Nintendo

5 So do Nintendo, from games like Wii sports to Metroid, Fire Emblem. Infact, Sony's main problem is that they don't produce any bridge titles. They have lots aimed at 16-20 year old boys, and they have lots aimed at the very casual and kiddy markets. They don't have much aimed at females or males above 20

Isn't this entire thread built on peoples opinions? But anyway, i will answer what you said...

1. -
2. Opinions
3. Very debatable. Just this year we are seeing new IP's like MAG, ModNationRacers, The Last Guardian. The only PSone IP that they are using, AFAIK, is Gran Turismo. And a lot of them on PSone were very successful. Now with Nintendo... You just need to look at the previous E3. They showed 4 Mario games. FOUR. I know he sells well, but come on...
4. Nope. Wrong. Show me a Nintendo developed FPS on Wii. And if you say Metroid is an FPS, i will scowl at you ¬_¬
5. I would say they are about even on that point then, based on what you said. What i meant though, was more about the "rating" of the games.

1

2 indeed

3 - I suppose I was more looking at repeating themselves within a generation. The only two games Nintendo have announced/released that repeat what a previous game has done are Wii Fit plus (but that was sold at expansion pack price) and SMG:2. I don't think the same could be said for Sony. However, you are right that Nintendo does still continue a lot of their franchises from their 1st console. I would argue that this is because they have managed to keep their IP fresh and different, and thus it continues to be demanded. Some of Sony's PS1 IP such as crash, well, it crashed.

4 First person is a form of camera control. By your logic, resident evil 4 is a TPSH (third person survival horror) and Resident Evil 1 is a FCSH (fixed camera survival horror) Genre is about the similarities in gameplay elements, plot etc - not camera. Sin and Punishment'll do fine here

5 The rating as in the classification? as opposed to metacritic? I won't argue with you there - Nintendo do deliberately try to keep low ratings so that more can play the games
