Sony's first party games succeeded in that they made me buy the console. I'm a PS3 owner because of a Uncharted 2, and looking forward to MNR and GT5. God of War 3 pissed me off since it's basically 2003 in HD, but that dark spot is overshadowed by a lot of great stuff that's come out.
So yes I am I fan of Sony's 1st party stuff.
Having said that there's still not a company in the world that's better than Nintendo and all the nerd chest pounding sounds a little retarded next to their sales numbers. Critic scores don't even apply to Nintendo since it has become blatantly obvious that reviewers are clueless how to deal with new game values.
Are they at Blizzard/Valve/Nintendo level? Nope, but if those 3 companies all died somehow Sony would keep me in gaming which is way more than I can say for the rest of the industry.
