I find it that the older members are the ones contributing most to fanboy stuff.

That's not really all that surprising.  What I see happening with the moderation here is something I've seen time and time again on forums.  Those that are protected are those that post what is most open to attack.  They are usually also the group that is quickest click that report post button because they are offended at the response they receive.  Now, the site is overmoderated.  Temporary bans are handed out frequently and those that would want to take the zealous fans to task for outragous statements deside to go somewhere else where the ban hammer isn't swung so liberally.  The most successful and interesting boards I've ever posted on use bans VERY infrequently and those bans that do happen, are permanent.  I am and have been a moderator on a few boards and have always found that most problems could be solved without such heavy handed tactics.  Not only that, conversation on those boards was allowed to get much more indepth and heated, but without explostion because members learned their posting boundaries, including the unpaid volunteer company advocates (or they blew up and were chased off).

The fact is, the more interesting posters that are chased off by ban happy overmoderatores, the less interesting people will stay because they hit "Hot Topics" and see mostly "Which FF villian do you like most?" and "What are you thinking right now?" and other such drivel.  Many immature mods think that the more active they are in moderation, the better they are at it.  In fact, the opposite is true.  The best mods take action only when absolutly needed, and when they do so it should follow a set and simple process.  Temp bans represent forum micromanagement of members.  If you are going to ban someone, make it permanent.  However, 99% of all forum altercations can be settled without that.  Most people can be reasoned with and not everone should be protected from being assaulted for their zealous opinion.
