Reviews are someone's opinion. That's the whole point of a review. It's the appraisal of a game and its feature by a person whose job it is to write such things. They are going to be biased. It's called being a person. If someone could create a machine that wrote perfect, completely unbiased reviews, then many people would be out of a job.
Unfortunately, that's not how things work with gamers. Due to their lack of control over things that actually matter (overpriced DLC, high game prices, and whatnot), many gamers have taken to obsessing and worrying over truly trivial shit. This is one of these things.
And besides, if the review system is broken or useless now, then it always was. Hell, Gamespot gave a 10/10 score to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and Chrono Cross. As much as I absolutely adore Pro Skater 3, and to some extent Chrono Cross, can anyone here really claim that either deserves the highest possible score there is in the site?
I admit, I'm guilty of some of these things. I often skip a review and just scroll to where the score is. I don't play most of the games coming out anyways, but at least I don't claim a reviewer is wrong or crazy over a score for a game I've never played.
