Would be interesting to see what Google could do with the absolutely rediculous sums of money they are sitting on (they have more Free Cash than ANY company in the world). Tho, Id rather see them continue on their lines of hardline internet over all the US.
Apple would be worse for hardware gaming than any of the 3 that are in it now. What I mean is, they would be to disruptive. If you think Greenburg, Trenton or Reggie are bad...just wait till Jobs brings out his console...iBlow.
SEGA does not have the monetary might to come in strong enough to compete. Of the three listed they are probably the LEAST likely to do so (tho Id MUCH rather have them than the others). I like where Sega is now, but I think they could make a POSITIVE impact in the console wars if one of the current three ducked out.
Two is not enough, 3 is just right and 4 would be a crowd.
