So this thread is about the definition of the word "fad"? Well allow me to go off-topic and talk about the PSP.

-off-topic: I have a PSP and I love it. I take it everywhere. I plug it up to my car stereo and listen to music. I have so many photos saved to it that if it ever fell into the wrong hands, I'd be ruined. I've probably bought more than $200 worth of comic books for the thing (I don't even like to think about that). I have a few movies that I've downloaded and I watch when I'm at work. It has Skype built right into it (but I never bothered to use it) as well as internet radio. Oh, and it plays games, too. I'm so hooked on Jeanne D'Arc and Tetris (and FFVII) that it's scary.

I can't, for the life of me, figure out why the thing isn't a bigger success in the states than it already is. The only downside is that since it's a portable, one good game will last for a loooooooooooooooong time. I guess the PSP in Japan is like the 360 in America. It's big!

And how long did the bellbottom pants fad last in the 70's?
