If immortality was limited (as in only some people were immortal) some of the immortals would work hard and amass massive wealth and (as a group) they would economically enslave the world. If immortality was unlimited then soon people would stop reproducing, the population would stagnate, and everyone would be doomed to work for eternity. While the first option sounds pretty good for the immortals it sucks for everyone else, and the second option sucks for everyone.
