My first 80's console was the Colecovision. It was a toss up between that and an Intellivision. But, since I was brand loyal to Coleco from my Telstar (my very first console) in the 70's I convinced my parents to go with Coleco again...
While many friends played pac-man, pitfall and others on the Atari consoles I was playing Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Lady Bug, etc. on Coleco and it was a blast with superior block graphics...
The other thing I remember was switching to the Commodore 64. It was popular in the mid-80's to switch from console gaming to computer gaming. And the Commodore 64 was a popular place to go. Pole Position, Blue Max, Lode Runner, Defender of the Crown, the Ultima's, etc.
I stayed in computer gaming until the Gamecube and PS2 caught my eye.
