Exactly, its especially baffling to see "adults" mocking him for trying to form good habits, that's so mean spirited its just plain depressing.

When I was a kid, I saved every cent I could because it was drilled into my head at an early age that 'saving during the good time helps during the bad time'. And let me tell you it was a damn fine lesson that I took to heart. That $70 might not be much for a lot people here, but those that are putting the OP down for taking good care of such a 'minute' sum of money failed to see the point of the excercise.
