OP: Visuals and macho badassness is what God of war always did best. the game looks badass when looking at youtube vids alone, I can imagine playing it is even more awesome.

GOW1 had lower metacrtic than Resident Evil 4 and it still won most of the GOTY awards in 2005...

Got to love when people make things up.

Major publications see 2005 game of the year awards like this:

Resident Evil 4: 13 wins

God of War: 3 wins
