I'm running Compiz-Fusion on PCLinuxOS 2007 and it works great. On this terminal I have 1 gb ram and a Nvidia 6800GT... smooth as butter. But we also run Compiz-Fusion on most of our linux terminals at work (our company is PCLinuxOS based) and the lowest-end machine has 512MB of ram and a GeForce 4 gfx card and it runs smoothly too. Running the desktop in OpenGL really frees up the cpu from having to do a lot of unnecessary window redraws, etc.. rather, uses the GPU to handle the gfx updates (as well it should). Multitasking responsiveness is great on a Compiz desktop and the added usability of Expo and scale-windows plugins (just to name 2 of many plugins) really does help in every-day desktop usage. And the best part is.. the systems are rock solid. No problems with compiz stability, and of course, Linux is incredibly stable on its own anyway. Our company has really benefited greatly from the switch.
