you'll see why if you play through god of war 1. It's actually the ending. SPOILERS incomming.
He's like.. "i've done what you asked. Now remove my memories ! and the pain!"
they're like "nay !"
then he's like "oh noes. I'll throw myself off a cliff and end it !"
but then they stop him and are like "Nay ! once again !.. We cannot let you die. You're now the new god of war."
