You'll be pretty hard pressed to find any amazing RPG on the iPhone. I don't know if you've actually played Final Fantasy I and II but both aren't actually that good of games. The only reason anyone should ever play them is for nostalgia reasons and the iPhone isn't going to make those better.
Personally, I would recommend:
- Words With Friends - Great Scrabble game that you can play with random people, people on your contact list, people from Facebook and Twitter, or passing the phone back and forth. It allows you to have as many games as you want going at a time and it's just really good. I think I have eight or nine games going on right now. It also has a free demo.
- Word Play! - Boggle knockoff that you can play by yourself or online. It's really good and addicting but the people online are crazy good. Has a free demo.
- reMovem - Addicting simple little game that gets more play than anything on my iPhone. It has a free demo.
- Plants vs. Zombies - An excellent port of the game.
The iPhone is actually not that good for things like RPG's and more mainstream games, it's best for quick little games and you'll be pretty dissapointed pretty quickly if that's what you're expecting. There are good games but not many what you're looking for at all.
