Nord, unfortunately, you are running a 4200, and it is a piece of shit, so even if you are running on 1.3b cables, you won't get 7.1 audio, because, it's shit. So, just use the S/PDIF from the motherboard.

ps: and I love you, or something.

ps#2: forgot to mention that you need at least a 4600 series for actual HDMI goodness, just how it is.

It's for a low powered HTPC, so the 4200 fits the bill perfectly. Saved me $50 over buying some other card card and uses less energy in the long run. I can buy another S/PDIF cable for like $5, which is still cheaper so thats good.

Thanks for the info that it doesn't support 7.1. At least now I won't be wasting my time trying to get it working.

I understand, that's why I said just use the S/PDIF, glad to share the info. TBH though, a 4200 DxVA decoding might still have artifacts on full HD content but if you sit far enough away, it shouldn't be too noticeble. If you are using CPU decoding(assuming the CPU has enough power,) CoreAVC decoder usually does the best job, if you want to pay, or uh.... maybe not pay.... hehehe....
