Actually, in God of War, you HOLD R2 to open chests.

That is in God of War 3?  I remember mashing the R2 button to do open.

Unless they've changed it in the collection, it's hold even in the original.

You could be right with the original, though.

You had to mash R2 in Gow. I just played Collection recently, unless my brain is fried from allergies.

You open a chest by holding R2.

You open a door, however (the lift ones, which aren't very common in GoW anyway) by mashing R2. That really sucks, especially with an analog trigger. I think it changed to O in God of War II.

That's prolly it, the opening door with mashing R2 was one of the most retarded video game design I've witnessed when I first had to do it. In that case, Dante's just has retarded game play elements. They changed the door opening in 2 to that you press R1, then repeatly hit O instead, and they didn't just let the door open due to puzzle or timing reasons, but at least it was much better with O.

I will file it under bad game design.  When you don't know what is good vs retarded, and you go with retarded, because a popular game has it, you aren't designing well at all.  And I believe this is the problem with Dante's Inferno.  The designers of the game couldn't tell what wasn't retarded, that they had power to change, so they throw in the stupid, and likely make the stupid appear in more places.
