I feel like there's been a number of things that reminded me previous FF things. Such as the sphere blob that they do the fireworks in (FFX blitzball) and the one enemy that sort of looks like one of the Judges from FFXII.
I haven't been following this thread, and I'm only on chapter 4, but I'd like to give my input on the game so far.
First 2 chapters sucked big time. I was really turned off by the game. The characters didn't have any dialogue that wasn't super corny, the battle system was boring, the story wasn't interesting, and the setting was too dark and depressing for my liking. However, it is shaping up to be a great game. Story is definately catching on now, setting is slightly better in each area that we visit (though I'm not digging the entirely linear paths), the battle system has some serious depth, and the characters started having actual meaningful conversations. Vanille, however, has to be the most annoying character I have ever encountered in a video game EVER. I have yet to discover why she's in the game, and am puzzled at almost every action she makes. They are annoying, ditzy, awkward, and sometimes just downright stupid. Lightning and Sazh have to be my favorite characters, and the others, while they have some depth to them, seem distant and untapped. The battle system is great. Not only is it simplified, but they managed to give it a lot of depth that still makes it fun and intriguing. I can't wait to learn and master it, though I know it's going to take some serious grinding before I do so. To top it off, the battle soundtrack is awesome (well, I'm not a fan of the boss soundtrack, but the normal battle soundtrack is great)!
Anyways, that's all I have for now. I can't wait to spend the next 70 hours of my gaming life devoted to FFXIII.
