Yep.  They are still going to be supporting WM6.5 for a while though.

This is one of the biggest issues with MS as a whole.  They have a lot of dependencies on their old code.  Windows in particular has been plagued by it.  In order to really do something new, they have to break with the old.  Toes will be stepped on, but hopefully it will be for the best.  Rumor has it that the next Windows will see a similar break.

 

But from what I have heard,  it renders existing software  obsolete.

With mobile devices, this might not be that much of an issue. But for business, if you are telling them that all new computers new Windows and Office -- and that it won't work with existing platforms --  it could lead to big changes in business computer use.
