sony is currently not in the position to release a revolutionary, brand new control scheme. instead the they do the exact right thing... their new controller is basically 100% compatible to the wii mote and the camera offers (limited?) compatibility to natal. 3rd parties can now produce wii+ps3 wand games and 360+ps3 camera games.
sounds promising, in my opinion.
what do you think would have happened if the original xbox controller would not have been compatible to the playstation 2 one?
