Especially when you are trying to comparing two world wide sports yet confining one to a promotion that runs 99% of its activities in NA only. 

Yeah but Oldschoolfool is right, most people will know what UFC is but not everyone will know what MMA is/stands for. Even though you're right UFC is a brand its clearly the brand which is most popular in MMA. Kind of like how people say Kleenex and you know they're talking about tissues, or if they say jacuzzi you know they're talking about hot tubs, etc.
