I'm confused, if your gripe was that Heavy Rain and Deadly Premonition didn't stick with the established control schemes, or the "if it ain't broke..." why is GoW III on your list? You yourself say that it's an perfect example, but I don't know where I misread you. Your main theme was clearly of games deviating from the traditional game mechanics, etc.

I was actually praising God of War (even though I don't like the games).

-edit-

Note that I'm not pointing out that every game has problems, I'm saying that things like character movement in a 3D world, something that was solved well more than 5 years ago, got screwed up so badly in a new game.

I'm not against developers trying new things, but come on, you have to know when something is that bad.  In Heavy Rain's case, I tried the whole game to figure out why they went with that control scheme and I could never figure it out.

You need to be more clear, as you said after your GoW III paragraph: So yeah, how are these games screwing up such simple things?

And it seems everyone else in this thread interpreted as GoWIII=sucks.
