The trilogy is locked (though I googled about some more details and apparently it's just the three separate BD disks + new box for their boxes, not a proper new edition. The first two are reported as region-free, last one not.
And yeah, region-locking sucks. Aside from the USD riding low, that was the other reason for me to get a US PS3, since that covered both the US and Japan, and they are places with a much better catalogue than Europe IMO.
