I know that educated Europeans knew the Earth was round before the Age of Exporation, and I may be wrong in thinking that common people assumed the world to be flat out of ignorance. From the information about "The Life and Voyages of Christopher Columbus," I can see that I greatly overestimated that ignorance, as well as the stance of the Catholic Church that was mostly concerned with the Earth not being the center of the universe. Still, early Christians undboubtedly thought the Earth was flat, and this is clearly shown in the Bible. A multitude of verses reference the end of the Earth, seeing the ends of the Earth from a high mountain, edges of the Earth, foundation that the Earth is built on, the firmament covering the Earth, and so forth. To say that the Bible doesn't support a flat, immovable Earth is a silly claim. |
So... anyone who uses the phrase "The ends of the Earth" believes in a flat earth in your mind?
There are a number of verses in the bible that talk about th earth being circular and round as well.
How do you reconcile "Ends of the earth" with "circular"... when something circular clearly has no ends?
Easy... one is a FIGURE OF SPEECH.
