That's the key right there. When piracy is not only cheaper, but far more user-friendly, what do they think people are going to do? It's simple economics, just like how people will pay more for something that's easier to do (like how console games are generally easier to acquire legitimately than to pirate, whereas its the other case for a lot of PC software), but legitimate PC software generally has no economic advantage (aside from the hazier concept of increased risk of prosecution).
