Because I'm a prepaid user. I don't use my cell phone for recreational use (aside from playing the odd cell phone game). I have it there because it's convenient when you need to get a hold of someone and for others to conveniently contact you. I have no need for a $60/month+ cell phone plan. Or (if obtained unlocked) a handheld gaming device that costs more than a bloody launch PS3. lol.

I've used my mobile to call others for about 7 hours in the last 18 months (and I don't have a stationary phone).

Phones are also full of stuff I pretty much never use like organizer programs and smartphones come with even more of that stuff. I'd be way happier with a DS/PSP dedicated to gaming that can do the bare basics of what phones phones do - calls.

Yeah it depends on individual needs. I've had my current prepaid service for over a year and a half now and I've used only $55 worth of airtime at 25c/min (for the first while it was 20c/min though). And that used airtime includes texting (I think it's 5 or 10c each. I can't remember) and the 99c/month 911 access fees. I have about $35 worth of unused airtime right now. lol. And I always top up with the minimum amount. I might as well use the left over balance for buying games. lol. I'm a pretty light cell user because I use the wired landline most of the time and I use instant messaging/e-mail in place of "texting".

I then use all of that money I save by not having crazy cell phone bills like a lot of my friends and acquaintances on videogames.

For people who don't have a wired telephone line, a $60/month cellphone plan isn't bad. So as long as they have the airtime they need. I could have sworn that the iPhone service plan that Rogers offers (Rogers will probably be Canada's exclusive carrier for Sony's PSP Smartphone too) for $60/month or whatever doesn't include unlimited local calling airtime. Which blows.
