People are just hating because they wanted a super secret JRPG or Medevil or some other game that really stands out from the crowd. Actually, I want those games more as well, but this announcement (which we just heard about 24 hours ago) doesn't make those any less likely.
I'm tentatively excited about SOCOM because it used to be so different from other shooters, though. If they make it just single player and 32 player online I probably won't be excited for it. If it has online coop through the whole story, that will knock it up to about a 5 or 6. If it has splitscreen coop (or even splitcreen online?) that will knock it up to a 10 just like that. They just really need games with different modes on the PS3, otherwise you're always just moving from one game to the next with no looking back, and there are enough non-first party games that do single player and online deathmatch modes as it is.
